I think only one blog is perfect for a company. But its better if you try to get link from multiple blogs.

1 - Are you meaning by making comments with backlinks?

2 - speaking of this, what is the churn or attrition rate on comments posted on blogs with backlinks?

Raisking, we did a load of forum posts some years ago and yes, the backlinks did raise our search rankings for a while.

snakeman you are right as i have also faced such situation in one or two month back. Forums are continuously keep on deleting the previous posts and thus it results in the decrease in number of back links that we had. In such situation it is right to say that seo is a continuous process. We keep on posting and posting and posting to get more and more back links as we would have to lose the previous one after some time in future.
If you need internet branding for your product or services worldwide then only one blog is well for company domain.
