Start to use WordPress. Matt Cutts has told us that WP with good plugins does 80 per cent of the job for us.

    This

    WordPress 3 Search Engine Optimization

book may remove it by another 15 per cent. The remaining 5 per cent can be removed by you by studing the stickies on this forum and follow the discussions on different boards and read updated articles.

    Don't forget.

    SEO is a moving target.

Drupal may be as good as or better than WP.

Matt Cutts is not an SEO, and that line is pure rubbish from the get go simply due to the fact that far more than 20% of rankings come from off-page factors.

Exactly. It is an endless chore of keeping up to date on all the new changes, staying abreast of your competitors in quality linkbuilding, keeping a healthy social profile, etc. etc.

No, but he should know more about the subject than the average webmaster. I am not sure of the exact article, but it may be this

SEO for bloggers article I think of.

Other WebProWorld members may know a better source.

What do you mean by search seo, are you planning for online traffic? What is in your mind? Also note there is no end to SEO.

Of course, Google spamfuhrer Matt Cutts has to tell the party line of white-hat SEO, which means no manipulation of inbound links, leaving on-page SEO as the only thing you may do. From the viewpoint of on-page SEO, using WordPress with the right plugins may be an excellent choice, and is advice worth repeating.

I am using Yoast's WordPress SEO. Can anybody recommend any plugin as better?

The answer "Yes", while technically accurate, was not quite as informative as I had hoped! Perhaps the name of the plugin?... And even why you assess it as better?...

williamc you may not be able to answer this, but I'll ask you anyway.
Let's assume you have well optimized webpage (on site SEO) for a fairly competitive search term.
You are locked in a battle with two others for top spot and they are doing likewise.
What percentage of SEO would you say is offsite as in backlinks etc (I know it's a tough question because one does depend on the other).
    Thanks for your input.
