Exactly. It is an endless chore of keeping up to date on all the new changes, staying abreast of your competitors in quality linkbuilding, keeping a healthy social profile, etc. etc.

No, but he should know more about the subject than the average webmaster. I am not sure of the exact article, but it may be this

Of course, Google spamfuhrer Matt Cutts has to tell the party line of white-hat SEO, which means no manipulation of inbound links, leaving on-page SEO as the only thing you may do. From the viewpoint of on-page SEO, using WordPress with the right plugins may be an excellent choice, and is advice worth repeating.

The answer "Yes", while technically accurate, was not quite as informative as I had hoped! Perhaps the name of the plugin?... And even why you assess it as better?...

I would think if he actually said 80% then he was talking about onpage seo, not offsite factors which is technically sem. I have found that Wordpress can take care of a LOT of the onpage seo just by having good plugins and utilizing the permalinks. So I believe Cutts remark was correct.

Talking SEO and the perennial desire to rank one on google or bing, you always get the party line of good content will get you there.
I know this is rubbish as the three main competitors of ours have either no significant content or absolute crap and they get their rankings solely from
keywords on page and good backlinks and lots of them.
This is also common elsewhere.
In summary so long as you have robots doing the rankings and usiiung existing technology, there will be SEO people gaming the system and winning and so I see no short term end to SEO soon.
