Lightbulb jQuery 2.0 Drops Support for IE6, 7 and 8

    Today I found this

    jQuery 2.0 Drops Support for IE6, 7 and 8

interesting article on the sitepoint.com site.

In a surprise announcement on the jQuery blog the team has decided that jQuery 1.9 will be the last edition to support legacy editions of Internet Explorer. jQuery 2.0 — planned for release in 2013 — will no longer support IE6, 7 and 8.

In essence, jQuery 2.0 will be a leaner, faster library without old IE bloat such as DOM selection routines, different event models and HTML5 shims.
Another reason for upgrading your browser.

So now there will two versions; just what the developer world needs. More jerry rigging, browser sniffing, etc. We're never going to be free of 'fallbackitis' are we?

You are most probably correct as long as there are no borwser standards, even if Microsoft has improved by makine I.E. 9 dom compliant.

This funny quote, may be relevant:

    Refactoring
The process of taking a well-designed piece of code and, through a series of small, reversible changes, making it completely unmaintainable by anyone except yourself.

When everyone tries to jump over to 2.0 with their 1.9 code, there will perchance be some refactoring?

Hmmm. That's a bummer. For me, that was always one of the biggest selling points for using jQuery: One library to support all the browsers I need to support. I guess 1.9 will be around a LONG time.
