    Requesting/Paying Google For 'Link Redirect'

    Hi Gang

Does anyone know if it's possible to request, or pay Google to create a 'Link Redirect?' I've had a website, and documentary trailer on another very popular site which retains thousands of hits. My web location is still listed on that old URL. Can I have Google create a 'Link Redirect', to my new location/URL, in order to not loose contacts/hits?

    Thanx
    Mike

You can do this yourself if you own the site you want redirected with a simple 301 redirect in htaccess if you are on an apache server.

If the site/page you want redirected is not owned by you, then no, you can't do this. If it were possible everyone would be doing it to steal great content.

Thanx for the reply. Sorry I wasn't aware of this. Do you know if I have 'other' options? Perhaps ask Google to remove the old link?

    Thanks

There is nothing you can do legally since you don't actually own the website. If you own the content you can ask them to take it down, but this is not a Google issue at all.

Hi Steve - thanx for the reply again - please allow me to understand: Although I own the video clip itself, it appeared on the Vimeo Film site, (which hosts many other filmmakers just like on U Tube.), but the link led directly to my film clip. With this in mind, there still isn't anything I can do to have Google remove the inactive/broken link? I actually asked Vimeo, and they said I could have Google remove the 'inactive link'. If you're correct, than Vimeo was wrong.

Google does not remove links by request. They will remove a page from your own website if you ask them to through webmaster tools.

Sorry I'm slow - it's really hot here - let me try to understand -

You made a video. -> The video was posted on Vimeo. -> There is a link pointing to the 'video' but not the page? If you want, PM me the URLs and any relevant search terms and I can get a better idea of exactly what the issue is.

htaccess is very simple way to redirect your page you need to write simple code in notepad like
    #begin 301 redirect
Redirect 301 (your old page url) (new page url)
    #end 301 redirect

and save without renaming you upload this file on root server and after that you rename it by "htaccess"
now it is completed. page will be redirect.

Hello Simion - I'm not sure I follow your instructions? According to Steve, there really is NO easy way to do this. The video clip I submitted was deleted from Vimeo, but the referenced location is still within Google's cache search engine, as well as hundreds of other web sites. The task is daunting, there's no way I can re-trace the history of the sites which posted the old clip.

This would have made things a lot simpler. *I realize it doesn't solve the entire picture, but it sure helps. Here's the link if anyone needs it.
