Something your SEO Company Will Never Tell You!

I believe 2012 is going to be all about content. Google has started putting more emphasis on your social media profiles. They're looking at how many followers you have, how many likes you have, who you associate with, and using this information in ranking your website.

I honestly believe that search engine optimization companies will have to become content publishers and enter the world of social media marketing to stay in the SEO game.

I agree, but I'm sure there's a slew of search terms where websites will continue to rank and rank above the rest regardless of how much social media and content marketing they take part in. There are just some websites that will always do it, be it because of a trust factor, natural and local links - a gamut of reasons - oh others may come close or even knock the top spot down a notch but they'll always bounce back and prevail.

It's kind of sad too, if what you're saying is true because content doesn't mean good service, it means absolutely nothing. People you associate with and share your content? That too, that means little in the grand scheme - is Pepsi better than Coke because 12 million people like the Code Facebook page - not at all - that's just good marketing and doesn't equate to good products or services - a lot of the time.

SEO companies, I agree with you there too. I kind of chuckle when I see a so-called SEO company that's hiding behind ghost-writers, don't have social accounts and aren't publishing top quality articles. The future of conventional SEO seems pretty bleak to me and all the new variations of the things that work (for SEO) seem to be revolving around being out there, public and active all over the place.

    We'll see...

The problem is that a lot of times, like Pepsi and Coke who is the best depends on who you talk to.

So...Google has to go by something. Google eats and lives on content. So I think we will see them go more and more towards blessing those who are willing to give the greatest content sacrifices.

Unique well written content in a semantic link structure / profile will always rule IMO.

A semantic link structure could be seen by the search engines as artificial. Wouldn't a link structure built using web 2.0 properties be much better. Letting bloggers, twitters, facebookers, pinterestes and all those other es's spread your links for you?

Yes, I think google is changing a lot and content is the succes for sites but it's confussing because one time google tells you, write genuine content and make it look as natural as possible but then make it professional so what's better? Look natural doing SEO or professional?

pick some key words and tell a compelling and interesting story around it...something useful for the consumers in your market...and make it natural (dont key word stuff) but make it grammatically correct (professional)....do that and your content will be worthy of top placement. and the operative word is "worthy"...since anyone can write "content" full of key words but treat each landing page as if you're writing to out-do (in terms of relevant info) 1000's of people....google will always put the best "stories" on top

Yes, I agree 100% but would like to add that content is video, photos, and anything else you use to get your message out.

I do think that social is definitely a part of Googles ranking algorithm, although just how much emphasis is placed on Social .. I'm still unsure. I read somewhere that social shares do hold just as much power as a quality backlink, BUT they 'expire' much quicker than a backlink so continuous sharing and social interaction is required to really have an impact.
