Google Places Question

Hi,
Had a call from someone today trying to sell me a package that would guarantee me a listing in top 7 on Google Places for my remedial massage business innerwestmassage.com.au. Does anyone know if it is possible to actually guarantee this?

I wasn't aware that this is the case and whilst I suspect that there may be optimisation techniques that could increase the chances of this happening but to offer an unconditional guarantee would presumably include the involvement of google and I'd be surprised if that was the case.

Does anyone know if such a guarantee is real? (I have no interest in taking up such an offer as my sites are reasonably prominently displayed on google places anyway but just curious to know the answer)

Sure it's possible, but under what conditions, and if you didn't receive what you were sold, then would you get your money back?

Maybe they would buy you some ads for day to put you at the top for a little while?

SUGGEST YOU TELL THEM YES IF YOU CAN PAY AFTER THEY DO WORK ....... I don't pay home contractors till after I am satisfied .... either !

No one can guarantee Google Places ranking or Google organic for that matter.

Many of these companies are scams and don't even do Google Places Optimization. Some are just a business directory listing service and that used to help somewhat, but not so much any more. DEF will not get you to page 1 just doing that as most local searches now are blended algo which is based on ORGANIC ranking factors NOT citations.

Thread started June 15, Google Places disappeared from the map at least a week before that. Where have you folks been? Why are we still talking about Google Places when it no longer exists? (or rather has 'become something else'?)

I agree. Rankings are beyond the control of any SEO professional or company but yes if they are good in SEO they can definitely get any site placed in top 10, however it'd be unfair to guarantee something.
