Problem with automatic concatenation of successive posts

At present, successive posts by the same member in the same thread are, under certain circumstances, automatically merged, with the resulting post being given a time/date stamp based on the last such post.

However, if the combined character count exceeds 10,000, the merge fails, and one is blocked for an unknown period of time from completing the attempted post.

This is particularly troublesome when a given post is itself greater than 10K characters in size, such that it has to be split, as it is now longer possible to ensure that its installments appear successively with no intervening posts.

Can you give me an example thread where this happens to you? This is the first time we've come across any issues with the auto merging process.

I've had instances where it auto-concatenated with well over a half-hour between posts.

Would appear to be working as described.

OK, just so I can wrap my head around this. It actually does work fine, but you run into the problem when (and only when) you post a large amount of text?

The examples you gave were posted over an hour apart from each other. They wouldn't have been merged to begin with.

Correct. If the posts to be merged exceed the 10K limit one is locked out for a while.

They are an hour apart because I had to split the content into two posts owing to its size, and was then unable to promptly post the second installment as the attempted auto-merge failed for the same reason.
