Where does the URL have to be?

So when I'm posting a comment to an article/blog post & it asks for your name, e-mail addy & site URL, does the site URL field count as a link, or does the URL have to be in the body of my comment?

And also did I remember reading somewhere that even if the site is no follow, it will still count on some level?

If I'm reading what you're asking correctly, the URL will then be your name after the comment is posted.

And sure, it does count at some level. You can safely go from here not worrying about follow and nofollow - just enjoy your link building

These are Profile data, which may or may not be indexed depending on the forum.

For example, WPW blocks access to Profiles to anyone who is not logged in; so, if you filled in the "Home Page URL" field on your Profile here, it would be viewable only by registered members. However, other forums do not restrict such access, in which case the URL in your Profile may be indexed and thus become a "countable" link.

She is asking about blog/article commenting not forums.

    You fill in the boxes.

When your comment is approved, your name is hyperlinked with the web address you put under URL.

If the email address you used is associated with Gravatar then once your comment is approved your Gravatar image is shown beside your comment (if the theme is setup for Gravatar).

The link could be nofollow (default in Wordpress) or not. But that shouldn't matter. You should be commenting on all types of blogs, nofollow or not, that are related to your niche (which Steve already said in another thread).

Don't put your link in the comment box. That's a good way to get your comment spam canned. However, up to the blog owner, if you provide a link that adds to the conversation your comment might be approved as is.

Ya, it is counted as link. Different blogs have different styles of commenting where you can include the link in the body by using html and in some it asks the name, url where you have to give your website url.

A blog which allows comments is a type of forum.

And, the data in question are commentator's Profile data.

As noted, that depends on whether or not the commentator's Profile data are crawlable.

    Glad you understood.

I know he said to post as normal, but if the link isn't being picked up, what's the point? Yes it's good to educate people, but I'm too busy to do it if the site isn't going to get something back in return.

    Thanks

Your ROI (return on investment) is:
    1. You get known within the appropriate community (remember you are supposed to be reading and commenting on blogs where those who are interested in the same subject are)
    2. If you leave great comments, you gain traffic because people check out your link to see who is behind this/these comments. BTW I have 1 or 2 clinks per day from a comment I left on Mashable months ago.

Either find the time to personally comment on blogs or find some other way to gain incoming links and acknowledgement of your expertise in your subject.

You could lighten your load of finding blogs to comment on by following a number of them via a RSS feed reader or even StumbleUpon.

Yes I know that, but I just stated IF the link isn't being picked up on. I guess in your case you are saying if the site gets a lot of traffic, then people will click on the URLs even if they are no follow. Got it.

Thanks & I will try to get the RSS feed reader or Stumble Upon going. I don't use either much.
