    Blogspot

Has anyone noticed that since the Penguin fiasco that sites on blogspot are now ranked higher than other CMS sites?

I'm not saying this is the case overall, but it is in mine & I want to know if G is giving these companies preferential treatment b/c they are using blogspot & if they are, is that fair?

Google's recent algorithm changes are scary and in some cases nonsensical. I have since stopped all of my SEO work and have done only social media promotions for my site.

The most recent updates have yielded unexpected results such as blogspot ranking higher or websites without any content reaching 1st results. I think that Google is aware of this and they will either A. roll-back some changes B. continue with a meticulous amount of fine-tuning.

As such, my strategy has been lately to play the waiting game and not get myself overexposed to either strategy because it appears that Google is redefining "white-hat" SEO. And while the definition is still unclear, I believe that poses too much risk for any SEO strategy (white and black hat alike) and may render any effort to increase rankings useless.

I have not observed more blogspot sites higher in the SERPs and since blogspot is an easy way to create backlinks to a site I doubt Google is intentionally favoring it. And so what if it isn't fair? Google doesn't owe anyone fairness. They owe their stockholders maximum profits as does any other public corporation.

Not saying a company shouldn't make money, but they are monopolizing the Internet & it's a conflict of interest. It didn't matter before b/c IMO they were being fair in their search results.

There's nothing fair about what's going on now IMO. That doesn't matter to you, but clearly it does to me as I kind of need money to pay for food & shelter. And NONE of my SEO has ever been blackhat. In fact I barely did anything to affect my SERPs & it's been this way for years.

I just deleted all the banners/links on my link page. I'm concerned they could also be affecting me.

Not to mention the search results I'm getting as a surfer are terrible.

I used to use the most common time site to find out the time worldwide. The other day when I searched, that site wasn't above the fold & I ended up going with About.com. Who knew that they even did time zones.

Anyway, I missed an important meeting b/c about.com gave me the WRONG time for Phoenix. I only learned this afterward when I talked to the person who lives there.

Had Google given me the top site I always use, I wouldn't have missed my meeting. Is it About.com's fault, yes, but why in the WORLD, would you rank About.com higher than a site that ONLY provides that one service, giving you the accurate time worldwide.

    Just nuts.

It's just not with the blogspot! as a matter of fact, this time, there have been quite drastic changes in terms of dropping the ranks! e.g. Google gave almost no value to the Blog networks but on the other hand, they have given lots of importance to single page Squidoo lenses!
