    xampp and prestashop

I'm just getting familiar with and downloaded prestashop to Windows in xampp. When loading prestashop, the install php page says that it needs php 5. The xampp version I'm using is 1.7.7 which has version PHP 5.3.8 (VC9 X86 32bit thread safe) + PEAR. Wordpress works fine so I know php is working. I'd rather use this xampp version if I can without having to install again. What am I missing to get prestashop running?
I'm looking to use for selling a wide range of unique items, and I'm sick of wasting time with ebay.
Is prestashop considered the best open source solution these days for this task?

    re:

Ok...thanks. I knew all that. eBay is not what it was years ago, and is almost a complete waste of time unless you have a one-of-a-kind item.
What I'm trying to do is get prestashop running with xampp. I have looked at Magento in the past and make look at again if I can't get prestashop running in my test environment.

On a technical point of view, Prestashop is a good software (some will prefer Magento), but it requires a server hosted (preferably a Unix/Linux with a LAMP). It means that it's technically quite a challenge and you may need advise from a technical expert.

    Hi,
xampp is OK but I know from experience that Prestashop will install easily on WAMP for testing purposes. Magento from all accounts is good but costs while Prestashop is still free if funds are an issue

When i knew all that. auction web sites is not exactly what it turned out in years past, which is nearly an entire spend of their time unless you've got a one-of-a-kind product.
Just what I am just attempting to perform can be receive prestashop operating using xampp. I have looked at Magento before along with create check out yet again easily are not able to receive prestashop operating around my test surroundings.
