    Tweaking Meta Data

    Hi,

Does tweaking meta data help? I never did this before, but I'm wondering if it will help? Or would just getting more backlinks be better?

The sites in question aren't on WP yet.

    Thanks

You can 'tweak' the meta data at stages that you consider your website has changed to make it more relevant. Meta data is not really SEO though if that's what you are attempting.
Back links are always good especially if they are related to your niche. Build them slowly and on a regular basis.

The keyword meta tag is no longer read by any of the SEs; and some authoritative SEO sources (SEOMoz , for example) recommend removing it altogether. The description tag has no SEO value, but is important to the click-worthiness of an organic listing. In other words, it will not influence where you rank, but can be a powerful invitation to the web surfer. The title - while not strictly a meta tag, does get lumped with them quite often. The title *is* one of the more important on-page elements for SEO; it ranks after content, IMO. Your writing site is the only one with what appears to be an effective title. But Lynn is right, links are more important.

So title yes, description yes, kws doesn't matter.

I agree the description matter BIG time. There are times I don't click on the listing b/c the description makes no sense.

What always amazes me & I've never had time to ask this question...

Why is it that sometimes when a listing comes up & I search the page it takes me to, the content I'm looking for isn't there. This happens often when I search people's names e-mail addys or phone numbers.

    Thanks
