Which link will be counted first?

    Hi,

My site is about real estate. As per client requirement we have two links for the same page in the home page.

One link is present in the scroll down sub menu in the header which is CSS and another link is present at the footer.

My doubt is which link will be read by the Google bot at first.

    Waiting for your reply.

    Thank you.

I would like to say that it doesn’t matter which link will be read by Google bot first. Google always give less important to footer links. So there is no issue if any of the link read first by Google.

It very much matters, as tests have shown that, of multiple links on a page pointing to the same target, only the first occurrence is indexed, even if it is "nofollow."

The First link will be read first. As google reads the whole page and if it finds the footer link more informative then it will be counted as well.

Google bots always read any webpage from top left to bottom right, the way we read any English book.... now I hope you would know which link Google bots are going to read first.

Google index only first link (if two links for the same page) on website.

Google will count the first link on the page, as seen in the source code of the page.

I suppose this should back to basic SEO 101. If there is a link on a page the best place to have the link is at the top of the page, for example an article, the best place to have a link is at the top or within the first sentence of the article. If you have more than one link pointing to the same domain within the article then either you, or the person who put the extra links there is wasting their time and doesn't have a clue. Now, Googlebot is able to determine if the link is in the content at the side bar; blogroll, or footer, and as Googlebot crawls the page it will know if the link is place in a certain spot. Another example, many are making little sentences in the blogroll or footer hoping that Google will thing it is a contextual link; this may work for a period of time, but in the end the best place for a link is at the highest part of the article or contextual link, not the footer or at the side. Then again if you can get a good link that adds value to the user if doesn't matter if the link is contextual, footer, or a blogroll link. Just use your best judgement and don't try to manipulate the search engines.

Google bot always read any webpage like a Z format crawler comes from the top of the Z and went from the Z end.
