I can't get wordpress site to index in webmaster tools

    Hi,

I have a site that has a wordpress blog on it. I put the site into webmaster tools. Verified the site and then submitted a sitemap.xml....

The blog (site.com/wordpress/) will not index in the webmaster tools....

I tried changing the url in the sitemap to site.com/wordpress/index.php... but still no luck.

Then I tried adding the blog (site.com/wordpress/) as it's own site on webmaster tools, verifying it and adding it's own sitemap.xml within the wordpress folder on the site.... but yet again, I cannot get the url to index...

What am I doing wrong? Should it be "site.com/wordpress/" or "site.com/wordpress/index.php" that is indexed and how do I do it?

    Thank you!

Go to privacy setting in your blog and make sure you are not blocking bots.

Beside that maybe just wait a bit longer. How long has your blog been live?

Do you have a link to it from the home page?

Hey ristenk1, what do you mean it won't index in WMT? If the main website is there, the root site, are you supposing you can get a whole new setup for the blog section?

Clay - I just double checked the privacy setting and it's fine. I don't think it's a matter of waiting because the other pages on the site (which are not using wordpress but basic html and css) were indexed right away when I submitted the sitemap.xml...

Morestar - yes, the index.html page of the main site and the other html pages in the root folder have been added to WMT.

... I must be adding the wrong absolute path in the sitemap.xml that was submitted to Google. I've tried:
    mainsite.com/wordpress
    mainsite.com/wordpress/
    mainsite.com/wordpress/index.php
    mainsite.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/index.php

errr, nothing is working... this is so bizzarre!

On another note, it's good to see you Clay and Morestar I haven't been on here in awhile because it seemed webproworld was more focused on SEO than development so I switched to stackoverflow... I must say I miss you guys because you're so much more forgiving of my simple mistakes!

    ris, provide page address

    mainsite.com logs showing?

    latest visitors, error_log?

This plug-in works well (Google XML Sitemaps)

Yes ristenk1, nice to see you too!

So if I'm correct, you're saying everything is fine but you're trying to add the new XML sitemap from the blog to WMT correct?

So when you add it, does it err or say it's not showing or does it go through and say success? If so I believe all you'll have to do is wait and as Clay said, check to see (I'm sure you did this) if you're blocking bots from crawling your blog.

Also, are you using Google XML sitemaps like DG said? I use it too and it works pretty well but remember if you are that you have to go into the settings and "build" your sitemap for the first time.

wordpress generates its on sitemap dynamically.

You should not have a physical sitemap in your root directory.

Though the plugin mentioned above works quite well, I personally prefer XML Sitemap Feed by RavanH as it also submits your latest posts to Google news using /sitemap-news.xml in addition to /sitemap.xml for normal pages

Webmaster Tools says to submit a physical sitemap.xml in the root folder... so this is what I submitted:

    http://www.headlinesinc.com/
    http://www.headlinesinc.com/index.html
    http://www.headlinesinc.com/hair.html
    http://www.headlinesinc.com/skin.html
    http://www.headlinesinc.com/contact.html
    http://headlinesinc.com/wordpress/

I submitted it on May 2nd and after one hour it said "7 URLs submitted, 5 URLs listed", "URL Errors - 1, 'Not Found'"

I've been checking it and it hasn't changed since.
