Yes, you should try that upside down. I also thought that was a neck tie. But since your client's an attorney, I thought it didn't make sense.

like everyone the gavel looks more like a bow to me....
redesign the top part of the gavel maybe...

as for colors, blue is nice was that a client preference????
if not then maybe try out some different colors???

i like the simplicity of the logo.
and the use of the gavel between J & H though

would love to see it using black and gold...colours more suitable for the law profession. the J and H sharing the same vertical line isn't working either. as a rating out of 10 it presently gets a 5/10 imo. regards
