The truth of the matter is that both spellings are correct. It occurs to me that this conversation was had many years ago, around the exact spelling.

Not in the UK, and this is a UK site judging by the phone number.

That doesn't necessarily matter in this case. The majority of the English speaking world spells it jewelry. He's obviously competing globally and making no effort to optimize for the UK and has a .com domain. So that's why I asked. The more I check out the site the more problems I see. I think they were lucky to get the rankings they did for as long as they did. The new rankings are probably more accurate to the actual indicators ( both on and off site).

Your site actually isn't heavily optimized for costume jewelry. There are a few things you could do that would help.

For one, you should code the template so your logo is actually a hyperlink of your sites title tag that point to the home page. That's not only smart SEO it's also smart for visitors. The logo should always be a default home page button.
That is really interesting claybutler. It shows very clearly that costume jewellery is not prevelent. The logo is usually linked, something I forgot to do. Just relauched the site on a white background. I will link it immediately. Your input is much appreciated.

That's the old page. I got rid of that line about offering a discount for a link. I have placed a redirect on this page to the new one now. Glad you spotted it.

Use css to stylize the image so in the code it's really hyperlinked text using your main keywords . An image alt tag is good as well (as the alt tag will be treated a hyperlink) but I think it can only help to code it as straight text.

From the quick look I've had it looks like you've been slapped with a penalty.

Are you still appearing for secondary terms? Look at your Analytics. What are your organic keywords sending traffic (now)? To what pages (now)?
I have noticed this myself. I can't believe the "crap" that links to us. I have no idea how this came about. Perhaps I should submit a reconsideration request to Google?

Not sure where that comes from? Phew! There's a lot to think about in your post carstensch. I tried a link building campaign. I composed a clear and well written email in plain text all about us and requesting a link. I sent this out in blocks of ten at a time, to quality websites that have a high page rank. 99% didn't even reply. I was a bit at a loss as to what to do about that. It was frustrating. Then I asked myself, why should they give me a link, they don't know me from adam! What's in it for them? They can happily ignore my reqest and not lose sleep or ranking over it! I'm curious to know how it's done. How do you get a high quality website that is better placed to link to a lesser site?
