    How do I create affiliate banners

    We have just started an affiliate program and I need to create banners for my affiliates.

    I am a graphic designer by trade and have just started using Dreamweaver to make changes to an existing site (in other words I am getting by, but don't really know what I am doing!). I have never started anything from scratch.

    Does anyone have any help for me. I do have graphics, etc. but do not know where to start. Talk to me like I am a kindergartener.

    Hello kindergartner,

    The first thing I would ask, is if you are using somekind of existing affiliate program, either a third party, like commission junction or an installed affiliate program/script ??

    As far as designing banners, one of the first decisions you need to make are sizes and where they will fit on your site.

    eg.) 468x60 * 125x125 * 120x60, etc.

    Then using your favourite graphics program, start playing around design styles, at the same time thinking about marketing and if you want certain banners to reflect particular items or discounts, etc.

    Then you can implement them using the code supplied by the affiliate program.

    Let me know if this helps or you need more info

    Affiliate Banners

    cyanide,
    I do have an affiliate program - fusionquest.
    Should I start with graphics first in photoshop then bring to dreamweaver to add code.

    I guess maybe I was making it too difficult.
    Any rules for banners with animated gifs - such as size etc.?

    Hi vintagedge,

    I'm not familiar with fusionquest, but...

    As far as size, I haven't done banners in a while, but I believe a large 468x60 banner should be under 10k-12k. So I guess you could use that as a quide for your other sizes.

    Yes I would start with a couple banners, especially for testing purposes before roll-out.
    Not sure what you mean about bringing it to Dreamweaver. A quick peek at futurequest, seems to be fairly non-complicated. Just need the affiliate to place the banner on their site and link to you using www.yourdomain.com/?affiliateid

    Hint:
    Before you go too nuts creating hundreds of banners, note that banner click-thrus have gone down the toilet. You should consider encouraging affiliates to use text links. And maybe provide a few samples on your site. People have come to ignore banners and the idea behind text links, is that it looks more like a recommendation.

    Hint2:
    You should have a page for tips, to help your affiliates maximize their click-thrus.
    eg) You could post a code that hides the status bar,
    such as:
    <head>
    <script>
    var statusmsg=""

    function hidestatus(){
    window.status=statusmsg
    return true
    }
    </script>
    </head>
    and then they would link...
    Your Site

    There's more types, just do a search on google
