I only use Google "Adwords Keyword Tool". First select the location where you wish to rank your website and then choose keywords which have high search queries but less competition, as you would be able to rank for these keywords in less time and plus try to choose long tail keywords as these are generally high converting keywords.

Use Adwords Keyword Tool, or use the simpler term (which I have often used for keywords rather important): ask people, friends, relatives. In short, do your own personal investigation

I usually recommend Rank Tracker. It takes data from Google Keyword Tool, the one shailender mentioned, among other things. And that's probably the only real keyword tool you'll ever need (I mean Google Adwords), however you might also want to use the misspellings generation option in Rank Tracker, or have it scrape Google Suggest for keywords. It also goes to Google and checks how many websites are ranking for each of your keywords (helps you estimate competition) and then highlights the words with the biggest number of searches + the least competition. So, these would be the best keywords to optimize for.

Have your tried Market samurai? Its pretty easy to use and I think that they offer a trial package for it too. I used market samurai to do keyword research if you looking for an in-depth analysis of its use along with a case study you should google smartpassiveincome niche site duel. It shows a showoff between two internet marketers that race each other to build a niche website. they walk you through and show you exactly what they did to rank their sites and how they chose the keywords the did and what programs they used. The good thing is that they reveal their sites and you can still check em out.

google Adwords tools is awesome to use aswell for a quick check here and there. I personally try to incorporate as many things in my keyword search as possible. Low competition + high searches = $$ profit.

Try to use LSI and long tail keywords. You can easily find some good SEO tools on Google which can generate LSI keywords for free.

I use keywordtooldominator.com to find keywords related to products. DomainSamurai is also good (it's not free anymore).

It has 2 modules, one is for rank tracking, the other one is for keyword research. Do not let the name mislead you
