    Pinterest Description Question..Need Input!

Hey there..came across a interesting question regarding Pinterest on a facebook discussion. Here is the question..
"Does anyone know why some Pinterest users when re-pinning things removes the description and places just a single period in the description instead?"
And since I been noting that been happening on my "pins" when being "repinned", was thinking it was for search engines so my images don't get indexed....is there another reason!

    Thanks in advance

I do the same sometimes with Facebook shares. The reason is because Pinterest won't allow you to Re-Pin something unless there is some text in the description box. So I'm presuming people aren't too interested in posting your description and only like the picture.

This is where it gets tricky

Tricky is right - since this is where someone re-pinning can add their own messaging. I think the original link back is preserved however. pinterest /sph001 still working to see if this is a traffic builder. jury is still out on Pinterest

I think it can be a traffic builder for the right industries such as photog, food, receipes, books, clothing. Some sites have reported spikes when an infographic was shared and some of that traffic went on to become readers/subscribers. Sorry, I don't have the info at my fingertips. I shared a photo from our blog and was quite thrilled that it received about 10 re-pins. As with any of this social stuff, you have to be genuine.

Traffic builder is an understatement. We have tripled the traffic to some sites with Pinterest. And I'm not talking sites with a couple thousand views a month. I'm talking about sites with 40 or 50k views a months that have jumped to 150k.

As for the text on the repins - it doesn't matter. Those are just people not wanting to use your description with the photo. When I post personally I use descriptions that mean something to me and may mean nothing to other people.

I am also thrilled when my pins get "re-pinned" and "liked". Been noticing my recipes and favorite quotes are popular!

Also been noticing that the "period" been appearing in my favorite quotes images, where I basically just put the quote and or where I got the quote from. Been thinking that by putting quote in comment that it will help in "image searches"?
