Thread: Does Social Media Marketing Work?

  1. #21
    For most companies, I think their idea of social media marketing is setting up a FaceBook page. Does it work? For most, I'd guess not. But it doesn't cost much to try.
    What I would really like to see is some actual case studies showing how social media worked for company XYZ, quantifying what it actually did (sales or profit), and why it worked. Until then, I would be skeptical, and wouldn't invest very much in it.

    ...and how much time and effort was allocated to this strategy to further justify. I have heard of even small biz companies who hire people just to post, tweet, comment etc., so it would be interesting to see if the cause/efforts, justify the means.

    lol, double from what?

    If it was 1 and went to two that's not much.

    1,000 to 2,000 now that's a lot.

    I normally get about 35 visitors per day from social media sites but then I am just getting started. If you are looking for sales then you need to be on LinkedIn if you are selling business to business. Facebook is better for anything else. If you have unique and cool women stuff you can drive hundred visitors per day with pinterst.

    As a couple people already commented, yes, it can work, to bring targeted traffic to your site, depending somewhat upon your niche, your location, and your method of using social media. A tree-trimming business in Small Town, Wyoming and a Ferrari dealership in Chicago will see greatly different results from similar efforts. For that matter two tree-trimming businesses in such different locales would see different results, as well. Someone that is constantly promoting themselves, rather than attempting to engage their followers and build relationships with them is unlikely to hold a loyal following for any period of time.

    Just as the content for your website needs to be tailored to your readership, so does the content of your social media campaign, or you'll soon realize you're spinning your wheels. Find the right chemistry, and you'll see some payoff.

    I think it's a new game and it's all about the quality of your content and the way it's distributed.

    I agree, except with the part about that being "new".

    It's new because we have more ways of syndicating content now then we did before. It's new because we are now realizing how stupid we all look posting me too post and wasting time submitting sites to directories. It's new now because it works like nothing anyone has ever seen. It's new now because Google is using social media to help rank your website.

    It's new now because I've just really, really started using it. (-;

    It works for me ive managed to secure thousands of £'s from it. I get enquiries and leads off Facebook / Twitter, video's on YouTube pull in traffic and it all helps the marketing push online.

    Thanks Young Cow, I was wondering rather or not to trust them until you showed up.

    Can anyone tell me how to make a guy rolling his eyes?

    Link videos from your email campaigns to people on your mailing list and this really pushes conversions. I sell internet marketing and Websites - not the most exciting of things but done right and you can bank on your average sale increasing in value. So not only sales improvement but you move out of any price wars with competitors and sell on value alone.
