I'm reading The art of SEO by Eric Enge, Stephan Spencer, Rand Fishkin (SEOMoz) and Jessie C. Stricchiola
It's quite a big book.. some 600 pages, but it's well worth the read.
Covers Search engine basics, Ranking factors, Crawling, Indexing, Ranking, using Advanced search techniques and then it goes more into SEO objectives, initial stages, the mind-set.. keyword research and developing SEO-friendly websites.

And that was with one good eye.

(Upper eyelid on right eye decided to spasm, fluttering more rapidly than that of a Southern belle in heat, making for difficult reading.)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Secrets by Danny Dover looks like an interesting publication. Has anyone read this?

take a look at seomoz.com and lynda.com. I'm new to the world of ecommerce so I have been trying to get up to speed on SEO and marketing for my site. i spent an hour a night reading articles and watching videos for about 2 weeks and I must say this site was one of the more helpful ones.
