Adding NoFollow Brings Huge Boost of Traffic Webmaster Claims

A webmaster I know shared with me her recent experience with the nofollow attribute. She *had* a standard directory style link exchange pages with listings in a title: description format. A few weeks ago she visited the Google forum and was advised to add nofollow to all those listings. She thought it best to follow the advice; she added nofollow to all her pages and she reports a major change in her traffic that she believes is a result. She wrote:



Of course, I can't see her traffic, so I have to take her word for it, but does it make sense to anyone that adding nofollow would result in a change to your traffic? She said she did the same thing on another site and the traffic doubled.

I understand that if I add nofollow to all my links my PageRank would rise as long as my link partners maintained the links to me. But the immediate impact of much higher traffic?

How do you guys see this?

So meta tag techniques / coding is more important than content?

I don't care if my articles are not found on that search engine SERPs.

I have started to think of a life without that search engine. I use it because I am used to using it. It also took years before I stopped using Internet Explorer instead of FF and Opera.

I would wager on just someone from the forum, not an authoritative voice.

Or, if they're still using them, perhaps a Google volunteer, some of whom aren't all that well informed either.
