Manipulating your own site's ranking is unethical.

And, it may be counterproductive, as such transparent click fraud is easily detected.

Alexa is not a search engine. It makes no attempt at cataloging all links, but only those of selected "top sites."

In short, no, Alexa rankings are not important and I tend not to give them much attention. Here's why: 1) Alexa rankings are determined by how many people visit a certain site while also having the Alexa toolbar installed. If people are visiting your site but don't have the Alexa toolbar installed, then you will not get credit for the visit in Alexa. 2) Alexa rankings play no part in your Page Rank and/or Google SERPs. What this means is that you will not get a larger amount of traffic for having a good Alexa ranking. On the contrary, your Alexa ranking will go up after you start to see an increase in traffic due to other reasons such as high-quality content and high-quality backlinks. IMO your time is much better spent focusing on those two things than the Alexa page rank, which will take care of itself once you get more traffic.

    I agree with merlot105 above.

Over the last year my site has gone from Alexa Rank 1million+ to 125,000.

A year ago i used Alexa Ranking to compare between my site and competitors sites this was the only use i had for it.
It did urge me to get to that level so in that way its been a help.

As my sites are UK based the Alexa Toolbar is ( i think ) more common in USA and this distorts the figures.

I have not found any other ranking method so make do with this but dont lose sleep over this.

Wouldn't going from 1 million+ to 125,000 be an eightfold increase in Alexa rank? It's 8 times closer to #1. That's a huge boost in rank.

What i experienced is that it is easier to go from 3million + to 1 million than from 1m to 150000.
In terms of visitors i had maybe 300 per day at 1mn and 1200 a day at 150000.

    If it helps

The only time that I ever come across anyone talking about "Alexa rank" is in a "domain for sale" posting with statistics about their site. As far as I am concerned, not a big factor, simply because a Alexa rank can be influenced..(see merlot105 posting above)
