I would appreciate criticisms from an Adsense perspective. I'm thinking that my current template, while it may look nice, isn't malleable enough to fit big enough display ads on the sidebar.

    a) How would you redesign the website with optimization for display/text ads? Would you keep the current template.

    b) I don't know if its appropriate for this forum, but does anyone here have any experience with targeted sports marketing display ad networks?

    c) And of lesser concern, I'd be interested to hear if the black background makes it harder for anyone to read.

    Hi Ambon,

Nice site, but why is it not in the team colours? Just personal but team colours would help.

Adsense wise, the ads stands out but maybe just below the main point of the site "About TFCBlog.ca" you could also fit adsense into the articles but it would be trial and error to find out what works.

The site looks OK, it is easily readable for me, it is a grey background, also look around for affiliated marketing, for things that are related and you could position ads in-between the posts.

You are on the right track, just a bit of tweaking is all you need.

    Regards

This was the only soccer-specific (or football specific if you're European) Wordpress theme I could find. The problem I have right now is that the adsense ads don't fit into the page. I'm trying to find a solution to that.

    Wordpress themes

    Hi Anombon,

Try this google search - wordpress themes for adsense, there are plenty of themes out there, its finding the look and then changing the colours to fit.

I am not to knowledgeable about wordpress, but it is blogging based software and you should be able to have modules to use on the side bar as you have already done.

For a more flexible option, have you looked at Joomla?

    Regards

Usually a theme's main page will have a gallery of submitted sites that use their theme. Pick any theme, WP, Joomla, Drupal, or whichever and you will surely find one or two sites that have the ads the way you want.

This is one way of knowing 'which template?' The site owners submitted their site because it uses the proscribed theme. Kind of a reverse engineering reconnaissance. Then you will have a number of good examples in whatever theme you choose that give you the spacing options you desire.

As mentioned countless times, wordpress is the most widely supported, and therefore easier to learn with a flatter learning curve for non-PHP informed users. If you have the grits then go straight to github and dig in to Drupal. The choice is yours which theme or framework, which is why I recommend surfing the galleries for a while, bookmarking as you go.
