usually you wont get those link, perhaps you are their partner or authorize site. Some university did create a forum, you may act as their student to participate their forum. But this is not ethical way, not recommend it.

Which is it? - tell someone they could act as a student or you don't recommend it?

There are many ways to get links. Here are some that worked for me.

1.) Buy a sponsorship. This means find a school that is local to your region, and pay to have a client listed as a provider of services to the school. Example - A client we had sold used books, so we paid to get a "sponsorship listing" on a higher ed site that listed the client's url and offerings (discount books) for students of that university.

2.) Social engineering - yes, buy some age appropriate students a few cases of beer, and they'll drop links just about anywhere ;-P

I did participate the forum and get those link, then I stop it. Because it is not ethical. Not recommend it.

It is actually not a new idea, but it is effective. You have to realize tho that links on 'professor' pages citing your work in a relevent piece are far better to my way of thinking.
