try and buy some domains of .edu and .gov extension if you can, & place your link on them..

The domain name gov is a sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) in the Domain Name System of the Internet. The name is derived from government, indicating its restricted use by government entities in the United States. The gov domain is administered by the General Services Administration (GSA), an independent agency of the United States federal government.
Eligibility for a .edu domain name is limited to U.S. postsecondary institutions that are institutionally accredited, i.e., the entire institution and not just particular programs, by agencies on the U.S. Department of Education’s list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies. These include both "Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies" and "National Institutional and Specialized Accrediting Bodies" recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Would that be an actor cast as an undercover agent; or, an undercover agent cast as an actor?

How about an undercover student acting as an over-acting agent?

I think all you can do is to contact the webmaster, and make an honest request to have them add a link from their page to yours.

If you find some .gov and .edu web pages on which you think a link to your site would be appropriate, look for the contact information. Then send them a request.
Present yourself honestly and politely: use your real name, include your contact information including phone number. I have done this often with success. I always include my complete contact info because I never want to be accused of sending spam. If I include my phone number and other information in my contact email, I figure that gives the recipient further confirmation that a real person sent the email instead of a spam-bot.

It’s hardly to get link back from .edu and .gov websites. As per my knowledge, there are some educational and government blogs are allow you to comment. If you want to get link back from .edu or .gov website after that you will have to contribute with helpful content on that actual sites and your post is relevant to the site then definitely get link back from those sites.

If your company is related to web development, then you have chances to get back links, if you can grab their web development work. My logical explanation is first define your activity. Your activity has to be somehow officially participated on website by concern department, like web development. If so, there are chances that they give your link.
