Yes, it's still going through the looping startup. I don't 'get' what to do now. Hitting ESC and trying to boot from the USB with the files from the second link isn't working. It's asking me to remove one or more disks and hit enter to continue...

Can you get into the Setup menu to specify the boot device order?
Yes I got there and the USB of which was connected to the PC wasn't there...that's weird cause it's in the (ESC) boot menu list, but again when I select it (USB-HDDO) it just says remove disks or other media, press any key to restart...I don't even know where the any key is :P
Seriously though...

So, you ended up being able to boot into a DOS box from the old HD?![]()
It sounds like you have a hard disk problem: windows can't read one or more files. I use Spinrite from GRC to check all kinds of disks. It's the best (if not the only) hard disk repair utility. Not cheap but I bought mine 5 years ago and it has saved many a computer! I can't post a link but it is on the grc website. grc.com It is a basic website design (he has no javascript for security reasons) but don't be fooled.
I'm a computer tech so it was a no-brainer for me to buy it. A great tool to have. You can create a bootable cd, floppy or usb.
Yes, Samsung drives were never brilliant for reliability. I only used them once and the whole box did go belly up. This is ten drives. You could imagine what the clients thought of me. If you have the Win CD, rune repair install. That should give you time to recover your data nad after that buy better drive.
Thanks everyone, and thank you especially deepsand...I think taking it into the shop may be the best option at this point but at first I'm going to look into GRC and see what I can do...
At the moment I'm using the drive as an external hard drive, I can see everything but...
Thanks Gent's...

Pity that you don't have the install CD(s).
From a DOS box, run sfc /scannow; if that fails, run sfc /scanboot and re-boot. This will attempt to repair protected system files using the contents of the DLL cache. However, if it finds a missing or corrupted file, and cannot find a good copy in the cache, it'll prompt for the set-up media, which you don't have.
See System File Checker for details.
I know, I don't know what's compelled me to think the install CDs are useless - after a few years I just throw them away when I clean house...won't be doing that anymore that's for sure...
So I've decided to simply use the drive as an external - that'll be easier than having 4 computers cluttering up the place and that'll save tons of space for my new computer which will be the new workstation...the dead one was old, slow, killing me so I guess it was time to go.
Back to dual monitors!
And deepsand thank you, I know I can always rely on you to help out in these kinds of situations. Thanks.

In the mean time, since it costs nothing, why not give sfc a shot? At the least, you may remember and find it useful in the future.
BTW, Steve "Doctor Disk" Gibson's SpinRite, available free at Gibson Research Corporation: FreeWare is top notch. Even if you don't use it now, get it for the future.
