What is the best way in your opinion to redirect mobile browsers to the mobile portion of my site from an entry page

The most common way is to use the User-Agent field in the HTTP Header.

If the mobile portion of your site is completely segregated and self-contained, in either a sub-domain or a sub-directory, then a DN wide re-direct at the head end can be used. Otherwise, individual on-page scripts would be the way to go.

There are any number of sites that will help here. One that will actually build the script for free, for a wide number of platforms - Apache, ASP, ASP.NET, ColdFusion, C#, IIS, JSP, JavaScript, jQuery, nginx, node.js, PHP, Perl, and Python Rails - can be had at Detect Mobile Browsers.

Of course, as new mobile browsers are implemented, these scripts would need to be updated.
