Something changed on backend whenever I click on the posts link

Something in the last week or two changed, b/c now every time I click on the thread's link in the e-mail, instead of it either logging me right in or taking me to the login page, it says this...

Been like that for quite some time.

Either you just recently hit the limit on Guest views; or, you were previously using the "Remember Me" keep-alive, and the cookie for such got clobbered.
