I have been thinking about this Dave but haven't been able to come up with a good answer. I suppose people could be manually creating this simply by raising their daily ceiling, closely watching and pausing the campaign when they reach their limit...

As earlier noted, there are applications that can be used for monitoring PPC campaign performances, and automatically changing bids and budgets, pausing and restarting, etc..

While I've no idea how widespread the use of such, this may, depending on who the advertisers are, be a factor here.

December 2011 was another record month for earnings for me. As indicated earlier in this thread, December has always been the best month of the year for my Adsense earnings.

Projected earnings for January 2012 are way down (again as seen before) although it is still early in the month. The number of page views and the number of clicks on ads is similar between December and January but the earnings per click are way down.

The best month of the year for earnings is December and the worst is August. No big surprise there, but the next best part of the year is the spring (April thru June) which is perhaps not so obvious.

    To continue this story...

My January earnings were terrible, just 2/3 of those in December. I began to wonder if I'd been adversely affected by a Google update. Since earnings from these Adsense sites are now significant, I'm becoming paranoid at the possibility of getting penalized or dumped by Google.

But no, number of page views and number of clicks in January was about the same as in December, Earnings per click were way down though. Where I was averaging over $1 in December, many clicks in January earned just $0.02.

Only two days into February and already things have picked back up again. Projection for the full (short) month is back on the growth track. I know it's early in the month, but a cautious Phew!
