Firefox does give an option to restore web pages, even if it gets crashed or closes due to any problem.

For it making your PC reboot while you open certain website, you need to check those websites, they might be infected website, Normally it doesn't happen.

I used to be a constant Firefox user and thought i would never convert. I had similar issues as you and as daniel suggested it gives you the option to restore previous data... but not always. My solution to you is Google Chrome.... I wasn't sure at first but it has really grown on me... maybe give it a try?

You will need to provide specifics re. which URLs such is occurring on, and precisely what action you are attempting at the moment that such happens.

Just how would that cause a reboot?

Telling someone seeking help with browser/operating system/application X to just use Y instead is rarely the best possible help.

In this instance it has yet to be determined that the problems lies with the browser itself.

Unless and until you are able to identify the specific pages on which this happens, along with the actions that were being taken at the moment, and give us such information, there is nothing that we can do to help.

This is a strange one. I have never had Firefox reboot my PC for me, and I have used it for a long time. If memory serves, a PC generally shuts down when either when there is something wrong with a peripheral. Like a faulty graphics card, power supply (desktop), so, its entirely new for me to hear about a browser causing something like this.

I agree with deepsand though, some added information would be good. Like what you were doing before the laptop shut down, specifications, and firefox browser version. Otherwise we could give you a multitude of solutions and neither would be fitting.

At the least, it would be helpful to know if it's a soft restart or a hard shutdown.

In my decades of experience, I've not witnessed anything such as this that involved a high level application.

I think he may be talking about a complete shutdown. If I knew how old his PC was and the last time he took it in for maintenance, it could give me something to work off of. If its a complete shutdown, the only viable thing I can think of is that the motherboard shut down to prevent damage. What boggles me is that it only does that when a peripheral is about to tank. The only advice I could give is to check the hardware manager and seriously address any notifications found next to peripherals. It could be anything from the GPU, CPU, PSU, sound card, tv card, it could even be the motherboard itself.

I am also curious about how well Chrome is working on the PC. It uses more processes and in some respects more resources than firefox.

Is Chrome more thrifty of RAM usage? That's the only thing that immediately comes to mind re. possible material differences that might cause Chrome to not trigger such response.
