In another thread he said someone else was targeting his site with SB links.. He didn't do it..

I actually think the SB links might be helping me. They're still showing up every day. But the post they're aimed at only lost one position. Most of my other #1 ranked posts lost 2 or 3 positions. Maybe some dumbass is just doing an experiment, I really don't know.

But the only thing on my site that is sub par is my page load time. I've found it's slow. And some caching options changed from my last theme update. I'm now using W3 Total Cache plugin. Maybe it will help. I'm not really sure how to use it. but whatever...

I've also removed some Adsense ads.

I guess only time will tell.

Steve made no such judgement. What he said was

I.e., if you think that what you are doing is so obviously egregious in Google's eyes so as to attract their attention and bring down their wrath on you, then you shouldn't be doing it.
I didn't think anything really. I rolled out of bed, went to do some stuff in my Adsense account, and my daily balance was like 2 bucks. That's freaky.

Well, I checked; and, the missing $$$ did not show up in my AdWords account.

On a serious note, how does said AdSense balance come into play here?

I don't use Statcounter or anything. My daily earnings are (were) fairly steady. The sharp drop was the first indication something was wrong. And a direct hit to your pocket book really punches you in the gut.

But things have been crazy today. I check one minute and they're back to pre-Oct 14th levels. I check back again and they're gone. Google is definitely tweaking something right now. Or perhaps they're just having some fun. Who knows?

Google is always tweaking something. In re. the SERP algo. alone, per MC, an average change of > 1/day.

This means that their global data store is, by their own hand, even more un-synched than it inherently would be.

I too am finding volatility in rankings, but not just specific to G. -5 to -10 positions on some keys and some as much as +15 to +24 right to #1 with others. I don't expect the big gainers to stay exactly where they are, but I am watching closely to see if they do stay close to the top and hopefully the loser keys will rebound.

Just curious. Your pages (or domains) that have gained...Do they have a low number of backlinks?

My homepage for 1 highly neglected domain moved up to the #15 spot on G for a pretty good keyword. It's a 2 word product name, 21,000 exact local searches, Adsense CPC almost $2. IMHO it really shouldn't be in the #15 spot. It has about 20 backlinks and is outranking some pretty good content and e-commerce sites.

And an interior page on that site moved up to #5 for a lower search, but still valuable search phrase.

The only way it's different from my other domains...It only has 3 pages, and I haven't built any links to it in months. It's just been on the back burner.

The domains I'm tracking are ones that I'm building link profiles for. But with the up and downs swings that I've seen recently, I will hold my opinion for moment. I will say that some of the swings coincide with internal pages that will no doubt, lose ranking eventually.

I hear ya. I'm sure more ups and downs are coming in the next few days. And my reason for thinking this is that the rankings just don't make sense right now.

I also wanted to elaborate on my earlier comment about "fake SEO pricks." I feel it could send the wrong message.

So I'll lay out what I meant Jeff Foxworthy style...

"If you have an SEO link in your sig, but are asking how to use the Adwords Keyword tool"...You might be a fake SEO prick.

"If you have an SEO link in your sig, and write a post that directly refers to your SEO link"...You might be a fake SEO prick.

"If you have an SEO link in your sig, and post about Meta-Keywords for high Google rankings"...You are definitely a fake SEO prick.

And these are real examples from real threads on other forums. I won't post them because they are painful to look at. And I'm sure the mods here see this everyday.

Love the Foxworthy SEO references! I used to do that sort of thing in networking meetings about Websites. Every week I'd normally stand up and tell everyone why they needed a website. So one week, I decide to tell of people who don't need websites.

    More like...

"If you've ever had crime-scene tape strung across your front door...you might not need a website.

"If you think the cursor on your monitor screen swears a lot....you might not need a website.

It just went on and on. I think I had 10 of them.
