    Question about floating Adsense ads...

I happened to come across a website which had an 160X600 Wideskyscraper (not adsense) advert which floated in the right side of the webpage as we scroll up and down... It looks great as we scroll down reading the long paragraphs on the webpages where it makes the ad visible all the time. I wanted to implement in my site this but this is what I found....

https://www.google.com/adsense/support/as/bin/answer.py?answer=48182 (Please see section Encouraging clicks)

Since there isn't enough information given about this, I had to come here and ask you people....

Is it OK if do the above mentioned floating thing with Google Adsense ads?...

    Question

Your question does not match your signature. "That floating thing?" versus "Systems Analysis?" I'm reaching in both directions for an answer to give. One for the newbie, one for the analyst.

The ad container is pinned to the vertical center of the window, and scrolling fires the handler which in turn checks the current scroll position against the last, making necessary adjustments in screen offset. The techie stuff out of the way, we can now consider the OP. First, while the ad may look good, why would a designer want it there? Wouldn't floating (or even fixed, we can do that now) navigation make the page more usable. How long would we expect a visitor to tolerate being chased down, or worse stared down by the same skyscraper ad?

In terms of Google, though, as long as you don't mess with their frame, and position according to guidelines, why wouldn't they like their ad floating down the main corridor of a web page?

No problem what so ever - good ad size to use.

Oh, "floated" - after reading WG's response I see what you're asking - I was thinking Div/float. All that nuisance in your face stuff - I would never use. Pop ups etc.

I have been floating my ad units for some good years now. There are also many webmasters who have written about how it is good to float your ads for high CTR. If it was wrong, Adsense would not have allowed it to go that far

I saw a really neat ad float across the screen at Yahoo.com but it appears to be gone now. A man with a jet pack on his back flew from the right side of the screen, up in the air, to the left side of the screen and back to where it started.

It did surprise me at how they allowed an ad to take over the whole page of yahoo.com. It got your attention

What portion of those clicks might be made in error or out of frustration on the part of the user? That's great for the MFA site; but, not so good for the AdWords merchant who's paying for those useless clicks.

Poppycock; Google doesn't care whether users like it or not, only that it earns revenues for them.

Just one of the reasons that I long ago abandoned Google's "Content Network" and now stick to "Search Match" only.

lol weegillis, Thanks for trying to answer in both the ways... I do not want to use this in the system analysis site. It has a new owner now for almost a year . According to Adsense policy you can never float the ad like I questioned. I asked the Adsense support team regarding this with a page created with an image floating as you scroll down the page. They made it clear you can never use it. But you can fix the ad for that position (position:fixed; in css), or you can display the ad in the primary frame where the content should be in the secondary frame.

andrewsegawa, you can float the ad in many ways. I don't know how you float it. Does it scroll down as you scroll down the pages? If that's the case you better stop it. Visit this and read section Encouraging Clicks https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...y?answer=48182
