Bingo; the shoe is loaded so as to deal the hands that we want.

I.e., in the absence of double-quotes, the query string gets parsed even in the absence of spaces.
Not when I search. pennstatetickeman and I see the phrase at the top. But "pennstatetickeman" has no results.

Did you look at my links in #36? The quotes are indeed being ignored in my examples.

That's because you copied/pasted my typo; pennstatetickeman s/b pennstateticketman .

It's not simply ignoring the double-quotes, but saying that it finds nothing with the phrase "should read" present in the indices, and defaulting to the remainder of the query string sans double-quotes.

The query strings "new 9 volt alkaline battery" & "new 9 v alkaline battery"work as expected.

But why doesn't it state that and let you know? They used to do that.

With Big G, we're lucky to be able to just figure out what's happening, let alone why.

But the results have different rankings, no? #2 in "cow" is www.math.temple.edu/~cow/ while #2 in "cows" is www.youtube.com/watch?v=FavUpD_IjVY.

Yes. By "different" I thought you meant something else.
