A search for "pennstatetickeman" yields result for pennstatetickeman, with the same question!

I.e., in the absence of double-quotes, the query string gets parsed even in the absence of spaces.

It's not simply ignoring the double-quotes, but saying that it finds nothing with the phrase "should read" present in the indices, and defaulting to the remainder of the query string sans double-quotes.

The query strings "new 9 volt alkaline battery" & "new 9 v alkaline battery"work as expected.
