The Green ticks next to search results in Google

    Hi All,

Can someone please explain why when I conduct a search in Google there are now a line of green ticks to the right of the results.. Doing some basic research this seems to be something Google has introduced to say that a site is 'Safe' or not.

However if I search for my site then I am not getting the green ticks! Surely that is therefore hurting me - or at least it is worrying!

Can you guys please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix the situation.

    All help most appreciated.

You should find my site on Google under 'DVD Cases' somewhere on the front page but with NO GREEN TICK!!! Help....

In Canada, using the OP search phrase returns 17,000,000 results, and none of the first page have green ticks in Chrome 12. There is a 'Recommend this page' button with each result. This could be where the green ticks are originating. Just guessing, since I don't see any.

Getting into the geolocation aspect we are seeing the world through G's eyes in two entirely different parts of the world. The results you see are coming from data centres situated near you. Over here you are not on the first page, btw, or even in the first ten. Shows how results can vary.

    Hello,

This is more likely to have been put there by your link scanning software on your own PC. We have AVG installed and it does it.

Certainly haven't see it on Google.

    I hope that helps.

Do you have AVG installed? This is whats putting the ticks there, not Google. Either that or you're working overtime my friend and need a rest as you're seeing things

Almost certainly your AV that's adding them. F-Secure does it for me

I find that really annoying how Anti-Virus software tries to hijack your web browsers. You can turn off the setting in AVG, but they don't make it easy.

Yep different forums indicate that some of the security software vendors scan the links and insert the ticks.

OK, right its AVG thats adding these ticks to my browser... thanks for identifying that guys.

BUT whats worrying me now is mine seems to be one of the few sites that is identified as UNSAFE and if AVG is picking this up then surely Google etc can also get that same information even though they are not displaying it - so anyone able to tell why my site is seen as unsafe by AVG as I'm thinking this may in some way be hurting my placement.

Every security vendor has its own and different methods for determining Safe/Unsafe. I find AVG in particular to be overly aggressive, throwing too many false positives, such that I long ago turned that feature off.

As for Google, it has none. That's why, among SEs, it's been crowned the "King of Malware."
