Arrow Yahoo Site Explorer To Be Retired This Year

Wow first the beloved Google Wonder Wheel get's the boot and now Yahoo's Site explorer is taking a hit too.

It's going to be completely integrated into Microsoft Webmaster Tools.

In an article I wrote today about my prediction of a very near future Google and Facebook partnership that Microsoft seems to be in a pretty interesting situation, down there at the bottom of the Facebook search results and this news today about Yahoo's Site explorer being integrated into Microsoft's Webmaster Tools, drives the idea home for me, that Google will have to make some concessions in the near future if it wants to remain a significant player in the social arena.

For those who are confused simply read my earlier post to make the connection.

Either way, see you all in Microsoft's webmaster tools by the end of this year! Looks to me like the Yahoo/BING partnership is moving one step closer to being nothing but a BING search engine and SEO/Webmaster tool center.

Hmm, a push for the IE browser? They use Silverlight for Bing Webmaster Tools and it doesn't work half the time when I have tried to use it.

Thumbs down Yahoo Site Explorer Closing Down Monday, November 21st

Yahoo Site Explorer Closing Down Monday, November 21st
As expected Yahoo will be closing down Yahoo Site Explorer this year. Yahoo has just announced the date for the closure. This coming Monday, November 21, 2011, Site Explorer will cease to exist. The short Yahoo blog post reads:
With the completion of algorithmic transition to Bing, Yahoo! Search has merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!. Site Explorer services will not be available from November 21, 2011.
Bing Webmaster Tools has much of this information, with the big exception of competitive linkage data, which is a huge exception.
There are third party tools including Majestic SEO and SEOmoz but with the loss of Site Explorer, there will likely be no search engine-provided look at your back links.

    Ref: http://searchengineland.com/

Yahoo recommends that webmasters sign up with Bing Webmaster Tools and use that as Yahoo shuts off Site Explorer.

BUT!!! I say if anyone has tried Bing tools they keep saying Malware found on sites without saying which links or code may have that Malware, even if Google say no Malware found with their tools.

Bing Webmaster Tools let you see backlinks on YOUR OWN site only! They don't let you see backlinks on a competitor's site. Which is why the YSE shutdown is really bad news.
Well, I've been using SEO Spyglass to check backlinks, and it used to rely heavily on YSE for backlink data. They actually sent an email saying that there is no need to worry, like, they are using other databases and might soon have own database.. Well, Majestic and SEO Moz would probably be an alternative. However, I've always preferred Spyglass because of the HUGE number of metrics it provides and the link value score.

I watched a video earlier this year in which a marketer speculated that Yahoo was "dying" (his word). The company had already shut down Yahoo! Buzz and Geocities, had laid off many people, and was about to lose Delicious. Now, with Site Explorer being assimilated, this might be, in my opinion, one more nail in Yahoo's coffin...

If Yahoo "dies" and gets swollowed by Bing what compertion will Google have?

Will the "Do no Evil" be needed. and then what happens if Google Fold, not impossible?

It is pretty sad that yahoo explorer has gone, for me it was one of the best tools out there when conducting research! majestic seo is ok but in truth I dont think anything really touches yahoo explorer!

Although there are a lot of other link tools out there I always quite liked YSE. It was by far the quickest and easiest to use, required no download or payment. I remember it being the first tool I used to check competitor backlinks when I started in seo around 4 years ago.

Do you think Yahoo (or Bing more likely now) will bring out a similar competitor analysis tool to replace YSE? I appreciate WMT will show you links for YOUR sites but would they bother challenging the likes of OSE as a competitor analysis tool?
