Find a local technician to diagnose the problem.

Off hand, it sounds like the HD died.

Again, find a local technician to diagnose the problem.

Absent that, there's no way to know what might be recoverable.

Sounds very much like the Click Of Death or COD.

The head actuator may click as the drive repetitively tries to recover from one or more errors. The clicking sounds can be the heads repetitively loading or unloading, or they can be the sounds of the actuator striking a stop, or both.

No cure exists, the drive is near complete death, just various recovery options using either specialist software or you can try swapping the HDD circuit board from an identical drive though this is something of a longshot. After that you enter the realm of a full tear down in a clean room and swapping the platters into a new HDD enclosure. Suffice to say this last option is very expensive.

    Not necessarily the case.

A boot time issue might be circumvented by booting from an alternate source, and accessing the drive in question as a data drive.

Did you ever have any luck with recovering data from your hard drive? Sometimes you can take out the hard disk and plug it into a USB or SATA external hard disk case and plug it into your computer with good results, that or use some software such as Kroll's OnTrack data recovery.
