Is anyone else getting problems with IE9?

    Hi all

Yesterday one of my clients reported she couldn't use the main buttons on her Joomla site after a Windows Update about 1 week ago (it worked before then as the site was thoroughly tested). I have looked on their site and got a solution. So no problems there.

However, now I have another of my clients also using IE9 and they cannot upload on their Google Merchant Center: When they try to upload all they get is a blank page. It works fine in other browsers but not IE9.

Is anyone else getting issues with IE9, especially since the last Windows Update? Please spare my sanity.

Yup. When I heard someone say IE9 was really just a pig in lipstick I didn't beleive them. Until I saw my own css lightboxes that work perfect in every other browser including IE8, 7 and 6 fail in IE9. Instead of launching the image as a lightbox it opens just the image as if you clicked "view image". Then when you click back to move away from the page the page gets greyed out.

Thank you Microsoft. Thank you for turning so much coding to make a cross browser experience consistent into a delayed powerpoint transition effect...
If you've worked in the Adult SEO industry, please tell me... how do you get it up?

    Joomla again

Me too. One of my sites is Joomla based. Contacted by a user who was unable to save changes when editing, unable to create bulleted lists and unable to insert rows in tables. Initially I didn't realise what the problem was as I knew he was not, shall we say, the most literate of users.
Finally established that he was using IE9 which he was automatically upgraded to and was having problems with several other sites. Switched him back to Firefox - problems vanished.
Microsoft strikes again. They looked as if they were getting near to getting things right with IE8 - obviously, however, they have learnt nothing - no surprise there then!

    Exclamation IE 9 issues

Yes, I too have been having issues with the new Internet Explorer 9. In particular viewing hiccuping video content. MS has a whole thread on the subject if IE9 bugs. And users are switching to Competitors browsers rather than endure it.
On the subject of IE, the next version has been announced as only supporting Windows 7! That should spur user loyalty !

    IE9 Challenges :-)

Just switching your client to Firefox or Chrome will not fix what the real problems are with IE9.

It appears nearly all of the problems showing up in IE9 are Javascript related. If you use the TinyMCE plugin for editing within your chosen CMS, there is an upgrade available. Another issue which showed up quickly on several Wordpress sites we manage was with Cufon font replacement. The developer for Cufon has an update from their website. Run a search for cufon-yui.js -- this is all that needs replacing. No need to re-render the fonts.

Things could have been much worse with IE9.... it could have involved CSS -- but that seems to be working ok.

I haven't seen any definitive list showing all the issues with IE9 surface yet; but I am sure it will as more developers find things broken.

At least it appears safe now to write off support for IE6. Anyone still using IE6 will have been filled with virus and spyware attacks long ago and would be lucky to see any websites at all by now.

Chris, after a lot of reading about the problem on forums (and a bit of swearing!) I found my particular Joomla problem was a conflict with the TinyMCE Editor. If you switch it to No Editor it works. Although thats not really practical for a client. I found a better alternative with JCK Editor (Joomla Extension). It was easy to install and I think it works better than Tiny ever did.

The thread I posted on does have a few suggestions as well. http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=613985 Hope this helps.

    IE9 simulation

In case anyone's interested, I discovered a website that allows you to simulate how your page looks using a variety of browsers. It does IE9.

It only takes a few seconds to render the page which is better than another similar site where you had to wait in a queue for hours.

    The simulator is at http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php
There may be no such thing as a silly question but the world is littered with silly answers.

IE 9 -- I got sucker punched by their ad and thought it was good! Now when I get emails with images, I have to go to the menu and click "View", scroll down and click "View Blocked Images" -- that's crazy.

IE 9 has caused problems for me on plenty of sites. I tend to agree with bigaussle that it seems to be JS related. None of my old sites look bad (fortunately), but the more interactive pages I've used and every CMS I've used has had problems.

I see number of issues with IE9. Even my own website doesn't display correctly in IE9. I hope there will be patching from Microsoft soon. Sure they are aware of this. It has appeared on TechRepublic already as well.
