What do you know about security? Is the code still open? Would you secure your house and tell the world how it is done? If there is somthing that should not be free and open, it is a web browser.

Opera is free, but not open source.

Listen, listen ... web amateurs come to WebProWorld, the

the World's forum for eBusiness professionals
and recommend a solution to secure your house that is told to the world how it is done.

I am norwegian, extremely biased and happy being small and secure ...

Do you think Opera developers study open source code?

To expect IE to fall in line with the rest is wishful thinking. We are all familiar with the way they interpret the spec--it's their interpretation, and how they handle it is their chosing. What's funny is that their interpretation is not usually wrong, just under thought.

Take for instance this regex filter, /\S\w*/. Every browser's scripting engine recognize this as searching for non white space, and having thought it through, their makers opted to include the non breaking space into the mix. MS, though, decided to stick hard to the spec, in that an nbsp is not white space, and so IE's scripting engine does not catch it. We need a special filter just for IE.

This is probably the main issue, nothing more. Find that piece of JS that everyone else handles with 'flare' and you can be sure that IE will put the cudgle to it. Do please share your findings with us. I expect it will be a simple, yet universal fix.

    Oh dear! I like it!!

I have no display issues at all. But then I now use windows 7. Nor have I seen any sites corrupted by it.

It strikes me if you still used basic html then sites always work, it is only when you add flashy bits and gizmo's that you all seem to have issues. From time to time I do wonder if you design for yourselves who are in love with the technology of it all instead of designing to the lowest common denominator for the great unwashed, who generally are not in love with techie stuff. Being in the computer world the odds are you all have flashy high spec computers. I still have more than 85% of my visitors using M/Soft software. Vista XP and 7 dominate overwhelmingly in my visitor stats.

I suppose it is just the fashion within the trade to "knock" M/Soft.

So just to be different............Billy boy, I love you and I thank you for bringing the personal computer to the masses!

Why are browsers getting worse? Aside from DOM and HTML5 support, IE 9 is a tragedy. A company with microsofts resources are not able to come up with a better browser.

FireFox 4.0 throw out important functionality like Export favourites to html.

    Good for Opera.

Microsoft strikes again. They looked as if they were getting near to getting things right with IE8 - obviously, however, they have learnt nothing - no surprise there then!

Chris, after a lot of reading about the problem on forums (and a bit of swearing!) I found my particular Joomla problem was a conflict with the TinyMCE Editor. If you switch it to No Editor it works. Although thats not really practical for a client. I found a better alternative with JCK Editor (Joomla Extension). It was easy to install and I think it works better than Tiny ever did.

The thread I posted on does have a few suggestions as well. http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=613985 Hope this helps.

    IE9 simulation

In case anyone's interested, I discovered a website that allows you to simulate how your page looks using a variety of browsers. It does IE9.

It only takes a few seconds to render the page which is better than another similar site where you had to wait in a queue for hours.

    The simulator is at http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php
There may be no such thing as a silly question but the world is littered with silly answers.
