Thread: Web Page Format

  1. #1

    Web Page Format

With the surge in widescreen monitors, tablets, and smart phones, it seems that web designers should be designing websites in the 16X9 format, are any of you web designer pros designing in that aspect ratio??

It would seem that web pages should be designed in "landscape" rather than "portrait"

And that the pixel dimension width should be at least 1280, instead of the old 800 or 1024

    Any Thoughts?

It's a good question. I don't design anymore, but I will bump the thread for you.

Although people are going for wide screens and mobile devices things won't change in the web design format and best resolution.
Simply make a nice research and find out that the most frequent resolution is the same for the last 4 years 1280X1048

    Google: screen size vs. resolution

Wide screens are for media, not reading. How many people sit ten or twenty feet away from their computer monitor?

    Google: resolution statistics

Yes, it's clear that stores have quit selling low res screens, and people are opting for a single large display as opposed to two regular sized. They live in front of their computer displays. But again, I stress, for media.

So the message is simple, if your content is media, then work with your audience who expect a large display. But if you still wish to communicate in the classic sense, then keep your web pages nice and neat and document fashion. Force the user to engage the screen and the words and message upon it in type.

Call me a troglodyte, but I still prefer two screens with separate windows in each. At least for web. When I want to watch a movie, from the local machine or the net, I switch one monitor to the HDMI screen in the living room.
