In my personal opinion, having a sitemap is useful for visitors in terms of navigation. I always love to use sitemap on a site as it helps me to narrow down what I am looking for. So, having a sitemap will enable search engines to show in search result more accurately.

But I think it is more useful for visitor like me.

I am also positive about the sitemap pages as it supports the crawler to realize the inter linking of your site and facilitates the visitors to navigate through your site in a disciplined manner.

Had you first read the thread, you would know that both have already been addressed, such that this question is now moot.

    This is quite incorrect.

The discovery of a single external link pointing to one of your pages is sufficient for an SE to discover each and every URL that is traceable back to the index/home page.
