Bing wants to know if you are a human using it

It just made me complete a Captcha to allow me to use the search facility.

Apparently the Bing computer is concerned that other computers might be using it to surf, so you have to prove that you are a human to be allowed to continue using their service. That struck me as being more than a little bit weird, to be honest.

Yeah, but not for using Google as a search tool, though?

Yes, you can get it on G search as well. Just submit enough queries fast enough. I've seen it happen myself on a shared WiFi with cookies turned off and paging through results really quick.

I was asked once to enter captcha while searching on google, but didnt questioned again.

    @ hughes

Just to confirm, i searched for 5-6 queries in google right now but google didnt asked me to enter captcha.

Google ask for verification when it detects unusual search queries entered by the users. I assume that this goes for Bing as well

Probably because they basically said their algorithm is partly based on users click through data, which means software created to click on search results to game the system. It was recently revealed by them during the whole Google Spy incident.

from a software engineers point of view - this would also probably be to stop some high stress loads on their servers etc.

Google does the same if you do too many queries too quickly, though you are only ever likely to hit this problem if you are on a shared connection and many people are using the same ip.
