Question Avoiding Duplication in Directories - Is it worth it!

I support small businesses and as part of that I submit them to local website directories.

For every place I submit them to, I will re-write the description to make sure it's unique and not a duplicate.

    Is this just overkill?

Is there any benefit to doing this or am I wasting my time?

I think no matter what it is you do, if you take your time and give it your very best shot every time, there is always a benefit.

Attitude and the way work is approached is easily the most visible recommendation any one can offer.

I would like to think that every action is detectable at some level . . Even on algorithms, or to the naked eye.

Hi well in my opinion since I was also doing the same thing just as what
you are doing. For me I'm not changing the description of our website since
that is our main page's description. And if ever I was having a second thought
whether out website might be existing on that submission site, I check on it
    first before submitting it.

And it would not affect your website's PR but only rankings,
I was submitting the website I'm working right now to those
submission site with PR and I'm very careful with the category.

I think you are doing it right maccreath, if you have time, always is a good idea not to duplicate content, but, on the other hand, don't forget keywords in your descriptions.

I do the same thing; almost every submission I make is different. I don't just vary anchor text, but the description. I believe it's good for the directory, as well as my site.
