Wow, I thought Fireworks was an orphan that no one was using anymore. Adobe really wanted Flash when they bought Macromedia -- are they still keeping Fireworks relevant?
It's still part of CS5. I suppose if a designer is proficient at PhotoShop they will stick with what they know, but I found Fireworks does a much better job of optimizing, and it's easier to use if you're a bungling idiot, like me.
Fireworks is amazing for web layout, and UI work.
Photoshop for me, and fireworks to layout, optimize.

i also use fireworks for web graphics, i'm very used to it. But when i think on professional graphics, i use photoshop. And when vector graphics i use illustrator.
