I am afraid you are listening to people who aren't very experienced in SEO. Please reread this thread. If you can show us where an authoritative SEO has demonstrated that PageRank passes through a link with a nofollow attribute, then please share that.

All authoritative sources I can find conclude: PageRank is not passed when a nofollow attribute is passed.
On Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Apparently this has no useful effect. No "link juice" authority is passed, so it does not help your serps.
