Using 1/2 of keyword phrase in domain?

I've been reading about using keywords and keyword phrases in domains, which made me wonder about having a domain that consists of only part of the keyword phrase I want to target--with the remainder of the keyword phrase picked up after the slash.

For example, if my targeted keyword phrase is "where to find blue widgets" --

would it make sense to register the domain "wheretofind.com" and then include a directory or file named "blue widgets" --

    wheretofind.com/bluewidgets/

I guess the big question is whether this approach would be just as effective (all other things being equal) as a domain that includes the entire keyword phrase --

    wheretofindbluedwidgets.com

Obviously the first example would be more efficient, as I could target a hundred different widget colors on the same website - and still have the complete keyword phrase in one string.

    Just a thought.

Sure, you might buy a domain that include you keyword or keyphrase, but I have to say that Google is trying to decrease URL's weigh, but, nowadays, It's worths to buy a domain with keyphrases, so keep going.

I haven't heard that. Can you substantiate that statement, that G is trying to denigrate the weight of keywords in URLs ?

Whether or not they are, the domain name (and file name) is often the anchor text for a link and until they degrade anchor text, keywords in URLs will probably remain a useful factor.

I think having one keyword in the domain is very helpful. Better than none. And using a sub-dir as you suggest has been effective in my experience.

One thing I forgot about --- I assume that the natural link profile of a website over time will likely include a good number of inbound links that use the domain name only. That means whatever keywords appear before the dot com will be the anchor text for that link. That kind of makes me think twice about my example -- wheretofind.com. By itself, it doesn't say anything about widgets, which is the niche I'm trying to target. Maybe the surrounding text would help in that regard?

I have found that using keyword + in + location does have an effect in the URL. It has always been claimed that G. ignores certain common words. I am not so sure any more. Three word search terms often include "in" I can show examples, using links but reluctant to without permission.

    backlinks and Title

having the keyword in teh domain is great because of the point mentioned earlier, if someone just links the domain, you'll see a benefit (better than zero benefit IMHO).

Also when you create the TITLE info adding the other keywords to your keyword.com looks natural and it should help the users impression when viewing search results.

    Cool

The first variant is more effctive, because the url is shorter and it's easier to remember it
and in summary the 1st and 2nd level page names will give you your keyword
    so it would be better

but remember:if that summary keyword is the most frequent keyword in your strategy, than it will be better to name the domain with it, because the main page is much more "powerful"

I would appreciate your first example of wheretofind.com/bluewidgets/ as this gives more flexibility in adding directories/sub-domains.
Moreover, it gives SEO advantage too.

Using the second aspect limits yourself to the blue widgets only.

In fact I just looked up sometime back and one of my sites that is #1 in google has a half keyword phrase in it's domain. I wouldn't say it is there just because of the domain but rather because of the seo that's put in it.

But yea, in your case the first option would definitely fit in well. Just try it, unless you do it you will not know whether it would work or not.
