    WebProWorld Flash Animation Contest

    Hi WebProWorld Flash Forum Members!!!

It's time to get your motors running and get to work! We are announcing a new Flash contest from WebProWorld. That's right! Since we had such a great time with our last contest, Brittany and the rest of the crew at WebProWorld have put together a new contest with some great prizes. Check below for further details and find out how to enter!

    ==============================================

    WebProWorld Flash Animation Contest:

    Project: Storyboard style animation.
Examples: Short story, movie trailer/teaser, music video, etc.
    File Size: Maximum of 3MB
    Duration: 2 - 5 minutes

    Objective:
The objective of this contest is to show Flash's ability to convey a message or stimulate an emotion. The challenge is to create a short story, movie, trailer or teaser, music video, etc. You are free to choose your own topic for the contest.

The restrictions are pretty light: The Maximum file size for this contest is 3MB. These movies should be posted on your server with a link in your post directing the viewers to your entry. If you take a look at www.shockwave.com, most Flash animations are around 2MB.

The animation should last between 2 -5 minutes. The average Flash movie lasts between 3-4 minutes so this is a good range to shoot for.

No overly graphic violence, graphic sexual content/pornography or profanity will be accepted. All entries must be submitted to our Brittany or to one of the two moderators of the Flash forum, J_Paul or ghstdrgns, for approval prior to listing it in the contest thread. You can do this by simply emailing them or sending them a PM via the WebProWorld Forums.

While we do not accept self-promotion in the forums, you are allowed to post your personal or company credits at the end of your animations with links to
    your site.

To be eligible, all entries must be submitted no later than June 7th, 2004 at 11:59 PM EST - that gives you one month from today to create your animation!

Projects will be judged on the use of animation, element design and how the elements are used in the animation piece, proper use of movement based on the design style of piece, and use of sound, music and voiceovers. Note on Music videos: We would suggest using original music or something not published by a known recording artist.

We understand that everyone's drawing and animation styles are different; so if you can only draw stick figures, then animate them. Have fun with this contest. It is time to shine as an artist and animator.

    Prizes:
    1st Place:
A complete series of Flash tutorials from http://CartoonSmart.com (value of over $150.00)
Feature on WebProWorld.com for one day
Feature in the WebProWorld newsletter for one day
Placement in the featured sites in the FlashNewz newsletter.

    2nd Place:
Mention on WebProWorld main page for one day.
Mention in WebProWorld newsletter for one day.
Placement in the featured sites in the FlashNewz newsletter.

    3rd Place:
Placement in the featured sites in the FlashNewz newsletter

Now get working! Good luck to all contestants!

Just a quick note. Don't be afraid to ask questions. John and I are here and I am sure Brittany will be watching as well, to answer any of your questions regarding the contest.

I can tell you from personal experience that Justin of http://CartoonSmart.com is a great guy and puts out great tutorials.

You get his full collection, everything on his site pretty much. He provides all SWF and FLA files for each tutorial and each tutorial is a quality QuickTime video. The winner has the option of either downloading the files, or Justin has graciously agreed to send a CD "anywhere" if your connection speed does not allow you to download the files.

Good luck to all. I look forward to seeing your work.

    Hello,

I just finished the animation 5 minutes ago. Shall I leave the address here or must be mailed to your mailbox? Now comes some questions:
    1) The length of the movie is 8 minutes
    2) Size 2.5 MB
    3) The song is original by a very famous singer and she has already given me the permission to make this movie based on her song. Therefore it was impossible to reduce the time or not using the original song. As without that spiritual and powerful song, the animation will be meaningless.

    Best regards,
    Kiumars
I have to fall for an idea before to start creating a unique design. I know when it starts, you know when it ends.

    Kiumars,

Great! Our first entry already! :)

If you don't mind, could you please email the animation or the link to me at bthompson@ientry.com with "WebProWorld" in the subject line?

We'll just need to pre-approve it and make sure it doesn't violate any forum rules before posting it here, that's all ;)

I look forward to seeing it!

Woohoo! We have our first entry:

    The Line by Kiumars

Feel free to comment on the entries, as always, as long as you remember to provide constructive comments and criticism.

Remember, even though some of us have had more experience in Flash animation than others, we were all "newbies" once upon a time! ;o)

    nice

I like the piece and that you took the effort to get permission to use the piece of music.
I noticed that on the flash, you spelled ANGEL as engle.

Thaks Tomoe should be Thanks Tomoe.

...Never know where it ends until we loose (LOSE) interest...

Actually there are other grammatical errors that need to be fixed.

Apart from that it's cool. Good job. Great choice of a song. Inspiring piece.

    Educational us eof Flash

Not sure if these really fit within the competition, also I am showing the work of a third party from whom I commissioned this work. These are examples of non promotional use of flash, they are aimed at educational / training in the public service area.

The water cycle gets about 500 visits per month, the ‘fix dripping tap’ gets regular ‘thank you’ emails to me from all over the world.

    http://www.midkentwater.co.uk/educational/cycle.htm

http://www.midkentwater.co.uk/househ...ome.htm#window then click on ‘click here to fix a dripping tap’

http://www.midkentwater.co.uk/servic...lvalve.htm#win then click on the link to “see how a ball valve works”

These have all been done by a local web design company that I use called ‘Green and Tempest’ who also do other educational examples such as http://www.greenandtempest.co.uk/writing/ and http://www.greenandtempest.co.uk/migrants/birds.html

Not sure that these are what the competition is aimed at, however this is where flash can really come into its own.

    All the best

    Simon
