Top level Domains on WordPress Multisite vs Separate Installations

With the new implementation of the multisite functionality in WP 3.0, it's now possible to run multiple wordpress Websites from one wordpress installation. I have considered doing this going forward, but have since decided it might be best to keep things separate.

I think it will be easier to move from one host to another if needed, and will being in separate folders just eliminates any conflicts with files between domains such as sitemaps and htaccess.

I'd like to know what more experienced wordpress users and webmasters think about this subject.

Now, wordpress 3.0 merges Wp Mu and Wp. I joined a Wp seminar some weeks ago about Wp 3.0. There I got the impression that it is not difficult to run multisite Wp blogs with the new Wp 3.01 platform. I think it is made seemless for for media (nespaper) sites.

I don't use the multisite feature either. I have several WP sites and they use different plugins and themes. When upgrading later to a newer version, I do not want to have everything blocked because one site would not be compatible with the latest release. I play it safe keeping my sites separate.

Multi site ability I have noted with interest but have yet to test out.
Just reading the above has helped however.
Thoughts that spring to mind after reading are..

The feature could be of great use .. or a hindrance.
Intended usage impacts.

e.g. say your business model was to in effect to provide blogging capabilities for others to use
( you may earn from say forced adds on the blogs )
The multi site option might be pretty cool.

On the other hand if you wanted to run just your own sites you might prefer to do separate installs.
Key reasons being..you can spread them around different ip addresses
and if you assume each site has its own unique set of plug ins used you are not forced into holding back updates on all sites
if a particular plug in is a bit slow in producing an update to suit a future wordpress upgrade.

Interested in hearing feedback from others with more experience of multi sites on wordpress.
Is the above a reasonable thought process etc?
