As BING does power FaceBook Search is only because Microsoft Owns 2% of Facebook. It does not mean Facebook will replace normal search behaviour. Very few searches occur on Facebook compared to Google. The difference would be in the Billions.
Also, the problem I think is that Googles last social networking concept such as Orkut was a total flop, and Buzz doesnt seem to be picking up anytime soon...I would like to see Google stick to their roots and come up with New products and New technology, which is what Google is good at doing. Instead of trying to just take over the internet with bogus products which are meant to just compete with their competitors is a bad idea IMO.

I'm hearing you here. Nothing they've tried so far has rivaled any social site out there in numbers except for Youtube.com.

Readers of this forum will see this as nothing new. It has been predicted by one of our members.... (Modesty forbids...)

I admit that I enjoy a few Google products (utilities really). Particularly: search, image search, maps, and YouTube. I also have Gmail, Google docs & sites, and personally have little use for those or any other Google tools I've tried. So from my perspective I don't see any existing product that Google could integrate into a social networking framework that would entice me to use that framework. I hold by the "Do one thing, and do it very well" standard. Not sticking to this has been the demise of many an otherwise good product, IMHO.
I do think that using game developers to design it is brilliant and from that alone I am excited to see what they come up with. It would have to be pretty far out to convince me to invest the time and energy to switch over from FB, however.

kgun, free and open source are two completely different topics. WPW has nothing to do with open source (that I am aware of) and are making money from advertising anyway...which is a different topic.
Open source means the code needed to develop or extend functionality of something is available to the public so they can do so. Open source is generally largely supported by a community of volunteer developers. Open source typically has one of several common licenses and protections on it.
Here's a couple links that will give you more insight into this than I am able to.

Advocates:

Licenses:

Thought you would want to know.

It is a known fact that Google Buzz doesn't do well in the market as expected and not so popular among social network users. Recently Matt cutts published a blog about buzz titled ' Give buzz another look' just to boost its popularity. well, I too recently read an article in search engine land written by Jesse friedman, who confirms this in his article.

@langsor
When you quote me, please do it correctly.
Here

is the thread you quoted wrongly from.
I may have understood R2D2 wrongly. I think I know what open source is:
"Open Source" versus "Free"

Additional information:
Google: The search party is over [tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/07/29/google-the-search-party-is-over/]
Yes, the company is still growing at rates that would be the envy of the rest of the Fortune 500. But its core business is slowing, its stock is down, its Android mobile platform generates scant revenue, and competition (hello, Facebook) is fierce. Can Google find its footing in this brave new world?

Most probably integrated into a new platform as I see it.
