    Rustic Farmhouse Furniture

    HI Guys

I have put this site together for a client. Yes I am sure going to get comments on CMS / Templates... another can of worms!!

    http://www.rustic-farmhouse-furniture.com

I would like feedback in 3 areas.

    1) Overall look

    2) Navigation

    3) Browser compatability

    Many thanks

    Pete

If you are looking for a test of Browser compatability, you should use Browsershots.org - where you can see how your website looks on a wide range of browsers.

As for your website, you need to focus on a call to action. What do you want your users to do? Is it contact you, make a purchase?

The overall look is good, if you want to go more complex maybe you could have a jquery slider at the top with some images of your tables.

    Hi

Good points about browser checker, The one i normally use is too slow and really i should have been more specific, older versions of IE and in particular IE6.

Reagrds call to action...what would you suggest? My normal path is to over different choices, make contact, buy by making the navigation have different paths, and offering images to follow.

Images at top, yes great idea with a sort of power scroller!

    Thanks pete

On Apple Safari 5.0 the text of the options on the right is slightly "eaten". Besides this, It is easy to navigate and has a clean look. Looks all right in IE6.

The site is clean and straightforward to navigate and looks professionally built. There seemed to be no issues with the rendering on my system (Firefox 3.5.9 on Fedora 11). Load times from clicking on a product button (farmhouse table) to fully loaded page were incredibly slow. If this is the live site you may need to look at improved hosting.

A small point (as a customer) when I viewed the larger image of the farmhouse table the edge of the legs looked a bit pixillated and the table top image lacked a bit of clarity. If I was thinking about a purchase I would want to see a more detailed image with more clarity. This is especially true of bespoke items where made from natural products.

    Hi Guys

Firstly thank you for the feedback!

I agree the photos are not brilliant, I am trying to get me client to get some high quality images produced as these are of a poor standard.

Page load...the template is a little slow I agree, I have increased bandwidth on all my packages now, seems better!

Typo in the top title with the Caps sizes you seem to have HANDCRAFTED

Don't mind the site technically - or stylistically - but there seems to be a style mis-match between rustic furniture and the very modern corporate looking template.... which is making it look rather like they've just used an off the peg template design and not had a custom built site. (if it was for modern glass and steel furniture it'd look great!)

Really really annoying IE6 DETECTED thing at the top when viewed in IE6 - have worked quite hard to still have IE6 on this computer so I can check my sites in it - despite MS trying to install 7 / 8 at every opportunity..... anyway whenever sites try to tell me something would look better if I installed 'x' I don't - I just leave.

(views OK in Firefox and Opera)

Looks fine on Safari 3.6.8 under Mac OS X.
Ditch the Links button in the main menu.
    Overall, looks OK to me.

The 'featured product' looks a little unmatched. May be you could put the image on top and the text at the bottom or either way.

Otherwise it all seems well. And yes, need better images.
